Sea Kayaking in Devon

Sea Kayaking in Devon

Training Mornings for Beginners

For first time paddlers and those new to the sport, Budleigh Salterton (above) is an ideal training ground. It boasts a mile of pebble beach with calm, sheltered seas. We also operate from nearby Exmouth with its miles of sandy beaches as well as an area called the Duck Pond (a sheltered area not far from Shelly Beach). We also use a selection of lakes and  rivers for training, depending on the weather and numbers. Your BC qualified coach will keep you safe while teaching you the basics and once he is happy with the group we'll paddle down to the far end of the bay where we can explore the area, before a relaxed paddle back and a chance to practice your new strokes.

We recommend two mornings. Part two would cover rescues, practising your new skills and developing them whilst incorporating a trip along the bay. An assessment is then made with a view to a possible move on to the day trips specifically designed for this level. Other trips can be planned to cover your new level of paddling experience while of course exploring Devon by kayak and having fun just chilling out in the wonderful natural surroundings.

As you progress with your coach, we can award the following British Canoeing Certificates - Paddle Start Award, Paddle Discovery Award and Paddle Explore Award.

Please note that in the winter Rescue Practice is carried out in an indoor pool.
